Which park fits your crew, what tickets actually cost, and the heat strategy nobody tells you — every fact verified this month, from a local who drives families to these gates every week.
The 30-second version
- Thrills plus a free water park in one gate: Six Flags Fiesta Texas (northwest, by La Cantera). Bring swimsuits.
- All ages, animals and coasters together: SeaWorld (west, by the Hyatt) — Barracuda Strike is new for 2026.
- The destination water park: Schlitterbahn, 30–40 min up I-35 in New Braunfels — free parking, bring a cooler.

I drive families to these gates every week, and the questions are always the same: which park, how much really, and how do we survive July. Here is the whole answer, checked against the parks themselves this month — not recycled from some listicle written in 2019.
First, the orientation nobody gives you: San Antonio’s big parks sit in different corners of the city, and once you’ve picked what your crew wants, the drive time makes the call. Here’s where they are.
Where the parks sit
- Six Flags Fiesta TexasNorthwest, by The Shops at La Cantera — ~25 min from downtown
- SeaWorld San AntonioWest side, next to the Hyatt Hill Country — ~25 min
- Morgan’s WonderlandNortheast side — ~20 min from downtown

If you’re staying at a resort, the park next door is usually the right first pick — La Cantera to Six Flags, the Hyatt to SeaWorld. Everything else is a short drive.
Six Flags Fiesta Texas — the thrill answer
Northwest side, right next to The Shops at La Cantera — if you’re staying at the La Cantera resorts you can practically walk. Big coasters (Iron Rattler, Dr. Diabolical’s), and here’s the part people miss: White Water Bay, the water park, is included with admission. Bring swimsuits and you’ve got your midday heat escape built into the same ticket.
Six Flags Fiesta Texas
Thrill coasters plus White Water Bay in one gate. The move: ride in the morning, hit the water park when the pavement turns brutal, come back for the coasters at dusk.

Online advance tickets run around $39 against a ~$70 gate price, and parking (~$32) is cheaper bought online too. If you’re coming twice, the season pass pays for itself.
SeaWorld — the all-ages answer
West side, next door to the Hyatt Hill Country. Animals for the little ones, real coasters for the big ones — and Barracuda Strike, new in March 2026, is the tallest inverted family coaster in North America. The pass bundle with Aquatica usually beats buying two single days, and it makes the $30 parking free.
SeaWorld San Antonio
The widest range in the city — gentle animal encounters and real thrill coasters under one ticket. Barracuda Strike (new for 2026) is the headline. Bundle with Aquatica if you want the water day too.

Thirty to forty minutes up I-35 in New Braunfels, open roughly early May through Labor Day. It’s the destination-tier water park — and almost uniquely, parking is free and you can bring your own food and cooler. Arrive at open for free tubes and shade; both go fast.
Schlitterbahn Waterpark
The best water park in Texas, and the one worth leaving town for. Free parking and your own cooler allowed — a rare thing. Go at open, grab a free tube and a shady spot before they’re gone.

The world’s first ultra-accessible theme park, northeast side. Barrier-free everything, sensory-friendly, waterproof wheelchairs provided at the summer water park — and admission is free for guests with disabilities and kids under two. It’s built for everyone, not just for accessibility — but know it’s gentle rides, not thrills.

- Aquatica: the convenient water add-on next to SeaWorld, roughly March–October. Gentler than Schlitterbahn — better for younger kids.
- Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch: a drive-through safari 30 minutes northeast — 500+ animals fed from your car window. Go in the cool morning; pair it with the Caverns next door.
- San Antonio Zoo + Kiddie Park: ten minutes from downtown in Brackenridge Park. Kiddie Park — America’s oldest children’s amusement park, running since 1925 — now lives inside the zoo.
- ZDT’s in Seguin closed permanently in August 2025. If anyone recommends it, their guide is out of date.
The heat rule
Every park, same physics: mornings and evenings for the rides, water for the middle of the day, and check the seasonal calendar before you book anything — the water parks and Morgan’s run limited days outside summer.
