How booking works

Pick a route above, pay the flat rate, and I confirm by text. Prefer a human? Text me directly: 830-500-5112. Rates are locked when you book — 6pm or 2am, same number.

Act II · The honest answer

Do you even need a car?

I drive people for a living, and half of you shouldn't pay for a rental. Here's the straight version.

Skip the rental if

You're staying downtown at a River Walk hotel — walkable to everything in the tourist core

You're going straight from hotel to River Walk to Pearl and back

Your whole trip is 1–2 nights with no day trips planned

You're comfortable with $15–30 Uber rides to and from dinner

You probably want one if

You're staying at the JW Marriott, La Cantera, or Hyatt Hill Country — you'll need it for every meal off-property

You're doing day trips to Fredericksburg, Gruene, Austin, or the Hill Country

You're visiting multiple zones in one day (resort + downtown + Pearl)

You're a group of 3–4 splitting costs — driving beats Uber surges

My rule

“Resort-based and doing any day trips? Get the car. Downtown for two nights and staying in the core? Skip it and use Uber — or let me handle the nights that matter.”

Act III · Rideshare

Uber, Lyft, and the real fares.

Rideshare works fine in SA — the city is spread out but drivers are available. These are real ranges, not estimates.

SAT Airport → Downtown$18–30
SAT Airport → JW Marriott$25–35
SAT Airport → La Cantera$20–30
SAT Airport → Hyatt Hill Country$25–35
JW Marriott → Downtown$25–35
La Cantera → Downtown$20–30
Hyatt → Downtown$20–28
Downtown → Pearl$8–14
Downtown → Southtown$8–12

Surge is real

Conventions, Fiesta, big events, and weekend nights after 9pm — fares can double. That’s exactly when my flat rates above earn their keep: the price you booked is the price, period.

Same night, two receipts

JW → Downtown, Friday 7pm$80–100 with dinner surge$70, booked at breakfast
The ride home at midnightWhatever surge says it isThe same $70 — already paid
SAT pickup, flight lands 11:40pm$25–35 + the pickup-zone wait$45–65 — I track the flight, I’m at the curb
Six people with luggageTwo XLs, two fares, split upOne Sienna, one price, everyone together

Rideshare wins the $10 daytime hop — take it, genuinely. The nights and the airport are where the flat rate earns it.

Act IV · The pickup trap

Your driver can’t reach the river level.

The River Walk runs below the street. This trips up every first-timer: you walk up to the car — the car doesn't come down to you.

Pickup points by location

North end (near Westin/Marriott)Walk up the St. Mary's Street ramp, pin at St. Mary's & E. Crockett

Central (near Boudro's/Esquire)Walk up to Commerce Street, pin at Commerce & Presa

South end (near Convention Center)Walk up to E. Market Street, pin at Market & Bowie

PearlPin on Pearl Parkway — the river path has no street-level car access here

The two-minute rule

Set your pin before you start walking up — it takes 2–3 minutes to reach street level, which is exactly how long the car takes to arrive.

Act V · Parking

Where to put the car.

Downtown

The garages that work

Rivercenter Mall Garage — my pickBest for the River Walk, enter from Commerce St, validated at most River Walk restaurants. $5–15

Houston Street GarageBest for the Alamo, city-run, enter off E. Houston. $5–12

Sunset Station lotsEast of downtown, cheaper, about a 20-minute walk to the river. $3–8

Street meters2-hour limit in most zones, enforced until 8pm, free after 8 on most streets

SpotHero appPre-book downtown parking on event weekends — saves 20–30 minutes of circling

Pearl

Free surface parking on the east side of the complex — it fills fast on Saturday farmers-market mornings. Before 9:30am or circle.

Resorts

JW, La Cantera, and Hyatt all run $15–30/night valet or self-park. Most restaurants nearby have free surface lots — don’t pay resort rates for every dinner.

Act VI · SAT

Know your fare before you land.

SAT is 8 miles north of downtown — 15 to 20 minutes without traffic.

Your options, ranked

My flat-rate pickup — $45–65Booked before you fly. I track your flight — land two hours late and I’m two hours later, same price, no reprice. Luggage handled. Rates in Act I.

Rideshare$18–30 downtown, $25–35 to the resorts. Pickup zone outside baggage claim — follow the signs.

Rental carAll major companies on site. Book ahead for weekend arrivals — supply gets tight.

VIA bus #5The budget play. 30–45 minutes to downtown with stops. Fine solo with light bags.

Hotel shuttlesMost downtown hotels don’t run them; resorts sometimes do — confirm when booking.

Pre-flight ritual

Rudy’s Country Store BBQ on I-410 is 10 minutes from SAT — the best last meal in San Antonio before a flight. Brisket by the pound, counter service, fast. 11am–noon for peak brisket, and trust me on the creamed corn.

Act VII · The rest

Scooters, bikes, and your feet.

Short-hop options

Bird / Veo scootersAll over downtown. Good for hops between the river, Pearl, and Southtown. $1 unlock + per-minute. Watch the restricted pedestrian zones.

BCycle bike shareDocked stations at the Alamo, river, Pearl, and along Mission Reach. Bikes are THE way to do all five missions.

VIA bus #42Downtown to Mission San José and Concepción — the budget mission run. Doesn’t reach San Juan or Espada.

WalkingRiver Walk → Pearl is about 1.5 miles on the river path, 20–25 minutes on a good day. Not a summer-afternoon move.
