Wimberley is a great half-day — Blue Hole and Jacob’s Well are as pretty as the Hill Country gets. But those springs need reservations and the town’s a walk-and-swim, not a full day. If you’ve only got one day and no permits booked, Fredericksburg or Gruene is the surer bet. Wimberley rewards the planner; it punishes the walk-up.
When to go
Best months: March–June and September–October. Blue Hole and Jacob’s Well require advance reservations in summer — do not show up without one, book at the city or county site before you go. Wimberley Square is open year-round. Market Days run the first Saturday of every month.

Natural spring-fed swimming hole in a cypress grove. Reservation required in summer — book at the City of Wimberley site before you go, and arrive early.

The iconic crystal-clear spring — look, don't swim.
Straight talk: swimming has been suspended since 2022 over low water levels, and it hasn't come back. The trails and the view of the well are still open and still worth it.

The town center — local art galleries, boutiques, restaurants, and the Wimberley Glassworks, where you can watch glassblowing on-site.
Best for Shopping, couples
Less crowded than Blue Hole, no reservation.
Creek swimming accessible from several public spots around town. My backup when Blue Hole and Jacob’s Well are booked out.
Best for Families
Small but worth an hour.
Historic settlement with shops, galleries, and live music on weekends.
Best for Casual
One of the best artisan experiences in the Hill Country.

Market days
Wimberley Market Days run the first Saturday of each month, March through December — over 475 vendors. Arrive early. The biggest version, Marketfest, lands in May.

Leave early, swim first, eat on the square, and you’re back before the drive gets old.
Leave SA by 8am for Blue Hole — summer swim reservations are required, don’t skip this.
Water stop mid-morning.

Afternoon: shops, Glassworks, Pioneer Town.
