Start on the water — 30 minutes through the heart of the River Walk while the light goes gold. Your driver is already waiting at the dock exit.

Museum Reach stroll
Walk the river south from the Pearl — the quiet stretch locals actually use. Public art under every bridge, and the fish sculptures glow at dusk. Free, and better than most paid tours.
Hugman's Oasis
Two doors down, underground tiki named for the architect who built the River Walk. Dark, strange, wonderful. One more, then dinner.
The Alamo at dusk
One block off the river and free. At this hour the crowds are gone and the limestone holds the day's heat. Five quiet minutes most visitors never get.

A show at the Majestic
San Antonio's 1929 movie palace — ceilings painted like a Spanish night sky, stars and drifting clouds included. Whatever's on, the room is the show.
Street tacos, standing up
Find the vendor carts working the downtown crowd. Two or three tacos eaten standing up while the mariachis tune across the street. This is the city being itself.
