FAMILY · MARCH

Spring break in San Antonio, done right.

Theme parks, Hill Country escapes, Missions Trail, and the River Walk without summer heat. Spring break is one of the best times to visit — and one of the busiest. Plan early.

WHY SA FOR SPRING BREAK

The family case for San Antonio.

Spring break in SA means weather in the 60s–80s, no summer-level heat or humidity, and all the major parks operating at full capacity. The Alamo, the Missions Trail, and the River Walk are genuinely good in March. It's also peak season — book hotels and park tickets before you travel.

THEME PARK STRATEGY

How to do the parks without the worst of the crowds.

San Antonio Zoo

4.526.7K

Brackenridge Park, close to the Pearl. One of the best mid-sized zoos in the country. Go early in the day before it heats up. African animals, a good aquarium section, and easy parking.

SeaWorld San Antonio

4.338.4K

West side of the city. Killer whales, orca shows, and a good roller coaster lineup. Good for ages 4–14. Less crowded than Six Flags during peak spring break week.

Six Flags Fiesta Texas

4.337.5K

In-city, attached to a water park (seasonal). Hit it on a Tuesday or Wednesday — weekend spring break crowds are serious. Opens at 10am; be there early.

Natural Bridge Caverns

20 minutes from downtown. Underground and climate-controlled — perfect if the weather turns warm. Less crowded than the theme parks and genuinely impressive for kids.

HILL COUNTRY ESCAPE

One day outside the city.

Spring break is perfect timing for a Hill Country day trip. Wildflower season peaks in March–April. Canyon Lake, Gruene, and Wimberley are all within an hour and a half.

Canyon Lake

45 min. Spring swimming, paddleboats, easy half-day.

Gruene

1 hour. Guadalupe River, Gruene Hall, tubing season starts.

Wimberley

1.5 hours. Blue Hole, Jacob's Well, local shops.

Fredericksburg

1.5 hours. Wildflowers, wine, Main Street. Best for adults.

BOOK EARLY

Hotels near Six Flags sell out weeks before spring break week.
SeaWorld and Six Flags: buy tickets online before you arrive — gate prices are higher and lines are longer.
Restaurant reservations: downtown and Pearl get busy. Book at least 3 days ahead for groups.
Private transfers: if you're doing a park day or Hill Country drive without a rental car, book before the week starts.
