The tailwater below Canyon Dam stays cold year-round — great swimming and easy tubing. Multiple access points on River Road.

A canyon carved in a matter of days by the 2002 flood. Guided tours on weekends reveal limestone formations and fossils exposed by the flood. One of the most unique geological sites in Texas. Book ahead.

Several outfitters rent equipment on and near the lake. Morning paddling before afternoon wind picks up is ideal.
Best for: Active visitors
Several small wineries in the Canyon Lake area — quieter and less crowded than the Hwy 290 trail near Fredericksburg. Good add-on.
