La Cantera San Antonio

San Antonio neighborhoods

La Cantera. Worth the drive.

The Rim, The Shops, Six Flags, Topgolf, and a restaurant cluster that anchors the northwest resort zone. This is my dining list for La Cantera and Signia guests — and it holds up even if you're not staying out here.

Stay here if you're anchored to La Cantera Resort, The Rim, or Six Flags and want dinner, shopping, golf, and karting without leaving the zone. Good for families and resort trips that don't need downtown. Look elsewhere if you want walkable access to downtown, the River Walk, or Pearl — you're 20-plus minutes from all three.

The zone

Not JW. Not Hyatt. Its own thing.

La Cantera Resort & Spa and The Rim shopping center anchor this zone — 20-plus minutes from either of the other two resort areas, so I'm not sending you across town by mistake.

Zone note

La Cantera is not JW Marriott and not Hyatt Hill Country — it's a separate zone. Brasão is Willie's top rodizio pick right here, for La Cantera guests. If you're staying at the JW, use Chama Gaúcha in Stone Oak instead — don't drive back across town for the same meal.

Act I · Where to eat

La Cantera dining.

Brasão for the rodizio, Perry's for steak, Palenque for festive Mexican — everything within a few minutes of the resort.

The easy family lunch.

Brick-oven pizza on a shopping day at The Rim.

Honky's Hot Chicken

4.6★ · 755

◉ Low-Key Pick

Nashville hot chicken from the truck at The Dog Co.

The food truck parked at The Dog Co. Icehouse on Hyatt Place Dr — real Nashville-style hot chicken: tenders, sandwiches, wings, hot chicken on a doughnut, loaded fries. I pulled over for it — that's the whole test. Closed Tuesdays.

Best for Hot chicken, a food-truck dinner with the dog along

The Pita Chick

4.8★ · 69

◉ Low-Key Pick

Mediterranean truck at The Dog Co.

The other truck to hit at The Dog Co. Icehouse — shawarma pita, smooth garlicky hummus, chicken-and-rice bowls. Fast, fresh, and a clean break from the fried stuff.

Best for Shawarma, a lighter food-truck plate

Act II · Things to do

The Rock at La Cantera / Frost Plaza

Spurs-connected plaza.

Outdoor concerts and events tied to the Spurs.

The Dog Co. Icehouse

4.5★ · 83

◉ Low-Key Pick

The hidden-gem dog-park beer garden.

4302 Hyatt Pl Dr — tucked off the highway and easy to miss, which is half the charm. A gated dog run wired right to the bar, shaded seating with misting fans, sand volleyball, TVs, live music, and a rotation of food trucks. Come hungry — hit Honky's Hot Chicken or The Pita Chick. The northwest hang when the dog and the kids are along.

Best for Dog owners, families, a casual beer + food-truck night
